On startup you create a profile. You pick a name and a lord. The lords to pick from are the Dragon lord of fire, wolf lord of the earth, serpent lord of water, and the squirrel lord of the air.

the lord gets experience for conquering an enemy culture, your own culture expands, or you slay an enemy lord.

at the start of a map you control your lord. after picking a good spot you activate an ability to turn into an idol, and a culture forms a town around you which you now control.
