The Pact History

Long ago the universe existed in relative harmony, and in it was one world called Earth. Upon the Earth were two forms of life, the mortal plants and animals, and the immortal monsters that ruled over them with powerful magics. Unfortunately immortality can sometimes be completely unchanging to the point of boredom, and many of the immortals started having fun by altering the mortal creatures.

One of the more amusing antics was to give their tiny creatures forms based on the largest of immortals, the dragons, and so the world was soon inhabited by giant mutant lizards. The immortals knew little of the perils of genetic engineering though and the new breed of mortals soon gained a form of sentience and an unhealthy degree of anger at what they saw as the oppression put on them by the immortals.

One bloody coup de ta later, the mortals had created the mighty empire and started calling themselves the Dinosaurs. While a one on one battle greatly favored the mighty immortals their constant breeding soon gave the the dinosaurs numbers needed to to wage a successful full scale ware on the immortals.

As the war raged on the Dinosaurs used technology to harness the natural forces of nature in ways the rivaled the magics of the immortals. by the time Particle weapons and genetic engineering became widely used by front line soldiers, it seemed the war was wrapping up. However, the immortals had long ago began down another path to victory.

The final nail in the coffin was the creation of the humans. Using tissue samples from fallen immortals, the Dinosaurs were finally able to create cloned beings able to wield magic. They made three original humans, one of each gender, and their names were Adam, Eve, and Boogle.

During routine maintenance on the nutrient tanks the humans were growing in, Boogle suddenly awakened prematurely. Boogle screamed "THEY ARE BRINGING IT HERE! STOP THEM!" and lashed out with subconscious spells, breaking his tank. Assuming failure, the scientists put down Boogle, and altered Adam and Eve to be compatible to mate by themselves.

Boogle was a natural profit, and through his magic he saw the immortals true plans. Knowing their defeat was imminent, the last immortals had been crafting dimensional plains with their magic, and summoning an Armageddon upon the planet that no mortal could hope to survive from.

The final battle brought doom to both sides. Upon the arrogant immortals, they were able to get through the portals to the dimensional planes. The dinosaurs sent bombs containing bioweapon plagues in after them hoping to kill off the last immortals. To the ruthless dinosaurs, they had been so focused on earth that they had yet to look to the stars. A meteor was on its way to earth, beckoned by the magics of the immortals, and soon the world the immortals wanted to turn to ash would actually turn to snow.

After a few million years, the surviving immortals regained contact between planes. As it turned out, only 3 has survived. One was named Celestia, the plague bomb sent there was a dud, and no harm was done. The second was called the Netherworld, their plague had changed them physically and mentally and now the Celestians see little difference between them and the mortals. The third was given the title "Void", although something still lives there, nobody wishes to find out exactly what the plague did to its inhabitants.

Animosity grew between celestia and the netherworld, but only communication was possible, not actual travel between the two planes. Soon they remembered the world they had left behind, and they agreed to both go see what had become of their old home. Upon arrival they were horrified, not only was life teaming just as they had left, but a new species of mortals with an amazing amount of latent magical power had made itself dominant in many parts of the planet!

The netherworlders with their strange mutations noticed something amazing about the new mortals. Upon death the latent magical energies of the creatures would congeal into a a form they would later name soul, and that soul could be ingested and absorbed to grant them powerful mutations. The celestials however had one thing on their mind, fear. They feared that this new creature would finish the job the now absent dinosaurs could not and destroy them.

The netherworlders had grown weak from most of their mutations, so when the Celestians threatened to wipe them out if they made a presence on earth they quickly retreated to their plane. The ones among them who had retained the most power got together and made plans about how they could collect souls without the celestians knowing. One of their first attempts ended in great failure, as when they tried to transport the souls to the netherworld they lost their form and exploded in a burst of energy when going through the portal.

Irritated at the netherworlders attempts to defy them, the celestians started hunting them down and slaying them on earth. In a stoke of genius one of the netherworlders tricked the celestians. He pointed out that the celestian hunts had been witnessed by so many mortals that they were known already. He reasoned that going after the mortals who already knew of their existence would actually be helpful, so the celestians agreed that they would not persecute any netherworlder who was knowledgably summoned by the mortal.

And thus, the first pact was made....
